4th year students raise €1100 for Cancer Charity

On January 19th 2011, six 4th year students arrived at Richard O'Keeffes 'Hair Company', Castle St. Mullingar,  for a transformation. This was the culmination of months of preparation by the 4th year LCVP class at Castlepollard Community College. As part of their Leaving Certificate Vocational program, students are required to plan, carry out and document an activity. They had chosen to hold a fundraiser to help people suffering from cancer.

After much discussion about a 'Shave or Dye' event, and negotiation with school management about the school uniform policy, 'Carrot tops for Cancer'  was settled upon.  6 students volunteered to have their hair dyed red, the entire class created sponsorship cards, and traveled the length and breath of Castlepollard and the surrounding area, seeking sponsorship, and raising awareness of cancer.

The choice of charity, and the amount raised shows the maturity and selfness of the students, and a concern for others not usually associated with teenagers.
